We love updating kitchen cabinets with Dixie Belle Paint!
Step One: Clean your cabinets with White Lightning.
Step Two: Use Slick Stick if the cabinets have a slick surface or BOSS if you’re concerned about bleed thru.
Step Three: Wet your brush and remove the excess water with a paper towel. It is important to keep your brush damp. Paint two light coats. To achieve a similar look to these cabinets, use Sand Bar, Grunge Glaze, and Gator Hide.
Step Four: Allow your cabinets to dry before applying Gator Hide for a water repellent finish. You can apply three thin coats. Please remember our products take 21-30 days to completely cure so handle with care! For more information on these cabinets by Pam Haskins, click here!
Would love to learn what colors were used on the kitchen cabinets in the blog post. This is what I’d like to achieve in my home.(antique look). I will have to order from someone as no one stocks dixie belle supplies in my hometown.
Hi Sarah, Sand Bar, Grunge Glaze, and Gator Hide were used on these cabinets! Find your local retailer or shop directly on our website: https://dixiebellepaint.com/sand-bar-chalk-paint/ 🙂
Hello, How much sandbar did you use for all of the cabinets?
Hi Lisa, we hope you will consider painting your kitchen too! When Pam paints a kitchen, she usually uses about 64 ounces or less, so two 32 oz containers of paint. Hopefully this helps. Happy painting! 🙂
Can you wipe clean cabinets if they have the top coat of gator hide?
Hey Sara,
Yes you can but no harsh chemicals!
Now how long does the paint last before needing a touch up?
Hi Jackie,
The paint should last awhile before touching up if the piece was properly sealed!
Happy painting!
Can I just paint my kitchen cabinets with one of the regular Dixie Belle colors? If so what would I use to seal the paint or create an eggshell finish? Thanks
Hi Hazel! Yes, you can use any of our Dixie Belle Paint colors! Be sure to clean them with White Lightning prior to painting. We recommend sealing cabinets with Gator Hide for the most durable finish. Gator Hide has a satin finish. ?
I need to repaint our painted cabinets. Is this an option with Dixie bell? Is the process the same as above? Clean, slick stick, paint, gator hide?
Hi Maggie! We have not tested our products with other brands, so we can’t be certain of the outcome. However, you are certainly welcome to try. Yes, the process would be the same. We definitely recommend Gator Hide for protecting kitchen cabinets. For more painting advice, we recommend our Facebook group! http://bit.ly/DBPfriends
Hi! Should I use white lightning before sanding the previous cabinets??
Hi Clarice! If you are painting a slick surface, you can prime with Slick Stick. If you’d prefer to sand, we’d recommend cleaning with White Lightning after sanding. Happy painting! ?
Hello I have Dixie belle black sands all in one mineral paint in silk I also have white lightning and dixie belle clear coat flat would this be ok to do kitchen cupboard or would I need gator hide many thanks
Hi Kirstie! Our Silk Paint has a built-in top coat. However, for extra protection and a water repellent finish, Gator Hide (or Extra Coat) is great for high traffic projects like kitchen cupboards.
We just bought a house that has ikea cabinets. Would you be able to use your products on cabinets like that? I am a little nervous!
Hi Jennifer! Yes, you can. If the surface is slippery, we’d recommend priming with Slick Stick before painting ?
