Hello, my creative paint-loving friends! It’s Do from Do Dodson Designs! Today I’m excited to share with you my first time using Silk All-In-One Mineral Paint. I’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about this paint and finally was able to get my hands on some. Just the thought of a built-in topcoat and stain blocker in paint has my total attention. Today’s project is a re-do of my hubby’s dresser, and if all goes as expected, this should be the answer to my prayers. I don’t know about you, but my guy is pretty dang tough on his furniture. Let’s get started.
Materials List:
- Silk All-In-One Mineral Paint in Nautical
- Scarlet Brush (what I used on this project)
- White Lightning (cleaner)
- Sandpaper
How To:
Step 1:
To clean properly, use a solution of water and White Lightning to degrease and remove all debris that you can’t see from your furniture. Rinse with water after cleaning to remove any possible residue left-over from the powerful cleaner.
Step 2:
Scuff Sand – this also is a must. Silk All-In-One Mineral Paint will not adhere properly to a slick surface. The surface must be prepared with a scuff sanding with 220 grit or higher to scratch up the furniture surface for best adhesion. Remove residual dust after sanding with a tack cloth or wipe with a water damp cloth.
Step 3:
Using a good quality synthetic brush, moderately load up the paintbrush with the Silk All-In-One-Mineral Paint.
Step 4:
Apply in long smooth strokes in one direction. If painting in different directions is needed to cover the surface, gently go over the paint after being applied and smooth to diminish brush strokes. Don’t overwork the paint. I found that this process was super quick. I painted the first coat in less than an hour, and it’s a big dresser.
