Say hello to our guest blogger, Meg Brink!

Hi there, I’m Meg!

I am a young Interior Decorator who is just getting started after finishing my interior design education through the Interior Design Institute back in November 2018!

As long as I can remember I’ve been re-painting, re-decorating, re-arranging my rooms because I love how simple changes can change a space completely.

I am so happy to be collaborating with Dixie Belle Paint Company on this vintage dresser makeover because they are the paint company I started furniture painting with. Their paint is AAAAAAMAZING!

Here’s some great things about their products:

  • Zero VOC’s – odor free, safe to use, and non-toxic
  • 64 Colors In Their Collection – yes you read that right, 64 colors. So many different colors to choose from!
  • No Sealing – With Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint, you do not have to seal it which is awesome!

So, I found this beautiful vintage dresser on Facebook Marketplace… because where else do I find things? I knew as soon as I saw it I had to have it!

One of my favorite grey colors from Dixie Belle is Manatee Grey. In my opinion, it is the perfect light grey and I knew I needed to do a furniture makeover with it. So that use exactly what I did

Let get started!

Dixie Belle Paint Products Used:
Step One: Clean

If you hate prepping your piece, this is the paint for you.

I cannot skip this step because I need to scrubbbbb every piece of furniture I get. So as always I used White Lightning to scrub it down, rinse with water, remove hardware and clean it up.

This hardware came sooooo clean it’s insane! It seriously looks like all new drawer pulls were put on.

Step Two: Paint

I painted this piece with Manatee Grey. This paint has such good coverage and I only needed to do two coats on this dark wood dresser! How great is that?

I let each coat dry completely before adding another, which didn’t take long at all because it dries so fast!

Step 3: Wax

Next, I used Best Dang Wax in Clear on this piece.

Okay so here’s the thing. I was so set on using the Best Dang Wax in White because I know that it looks great over grey, buuuutttt I tried it and I just wasn’t feeling how it looked. I think I prefer the white wax on a darker grey paint.

Sometime’s creative plans don’t work out the way you thought, and that’s okay! You just gotta roll with it.

I just applied the wax with a lint free cloth and let it set for about 15 minutes and buffed out with one of Dixie Belle’s finishing pads!

Step 4: Hardware

I shined the hardware one last time and put them back on and viola! The finished product!

Isn’t she pretty? I am a little too obsessed with this piece, I haven’t stopped looking at the pictures of it!

Dixie Belle did it again! Making my job a whole lot easier one paint stroke at a time.
