Hey friends, It is Ahna from Hammers N Hugs. Today I will show you how to easily create a DIY Rustic Pallet Mug Rack. In this tutorial, I will teach you how to make a stylish and practical mug rack out of a wooden pallet, This project is easy and can be done in just a few hours, so you can create a stylish addition to any room in your home.

Materials List:

How To:

Step 1: Prepare Your Wooden Pallet

Firstly, we are going to start by cutting down the middle of this pallet. You could create multiple different decor items with this pallet but for now, let me show you this fantastic mug rack!  For a more natural look, you could sand down the pallet, add the hardware, and be done but where is the fun in that?

Step 2: Paint Your Soon-To-Be Mug Rack

Secondly, now that you have cut your pallet, it is time to paint it the color of your choice! For this project, I chose to use Salt Water Silk Mineral Paint. If you would like a creamier French white, try using Drop Cloth Chalk Mineral Paint!

Step 3: Decorate Your Pallet With Transfers!

Thirdly, apply a transfer of your choice. I chose the Bohemian Wedding Transfer, this transfer is light and airy but looks fabulous when distressed. Peel the plastic off of the back of the transfer and apply it firmly to your pallet. Every transfer from Dixie Belle comes with a burnishing stick inside, use that to rub and burnish the transfer onto your project. If your pallet is rough to the touch, sand it down and this will help the transfer burnish smoothly. Since I am going for a rustic and distressed look, I was ok with that.

Step 4: Sand and Clear Coat

Lastly, after the transfer was burnished, I lightly sanded the entire pallet with 320-grit sandpaper and then heavily sanded the edges to create more of the distressed appearance that I was going for. To seal this project, I applied 2 coats of Satin Clear Coat. For a smoother finish, lightly sand in between applications.
