Hey, everyone! It’s Rachel from Tea and Forget-Me-Nots blogging here. We love to re-purpose mass-merchandised home decor to our own styles. Today we’re going to upcycle an old art sign into a festive home decor piece.

Materials for this project:

How To Upcycle Old Art Into New Holiday Decor:

Step 1: Prepare the piece

First, I used a Key Holder that I bought from a discount store. I wanted to transform this into a tray, so I took off the hooks before moving on to the next step.

Step 2: Paint a base color

Secondly, I painted the bottom using Dried Sage Chalk Mineral Paint, while also leaving some parts distressed.

Step 3: Add transfer of choice

Then I added the Evergreen and Holly Transfer to give it some Holiday charm!

Step 4: Finish off the design

Next, I wanted to add some Christmas words, so I painted “Merry Christmas” on the tray with some Barn Red Chalk Mineral Paint.

Step 5: Seal with a durable top coat

After that, I sealed the Christmas Tray with Clear Coat in Flat.

Step 6: Add method for hanging (optional)

Lastly, I added black handles to the sides and then tied a festive ribbon onto them for decoration.
