Dixie Belle Paint Products:
How To:
The first thing I saw when I purchased this vintage Lane cedar chest was the shutter like panels on the front. My mine immediately went to green shutters you see on older homes.
Those shutters that have layers of paint that have been weathered over the years. I grabbed some of my favorite Dixie Belle paint colors in: Evergreen, Kudzu and Mint Julep.
Step One:
I sanded the old finish away on the bottom half of the chest as I knew I wanted my faded paint finish on this piece.
Step Two:
I proceeded to layer the 3 colors to get this weathered shutter finish. I then used Clear, Brown and Black wax to give it a aged feel.
Step Three:
I wanted more depth so I added Dixie Belle’s dirt (aging dust) in the corners and crevices. That gave me the depth I was looking for.
Step Four:
The top was sanded down and I decided to use Dixie Belle’s Black wax to give it that aged finish.
I will seal it again with Gator Hide in about a week to give it that water resistant finish.
Yes, you can use Dixie Belle’s top coats over their waxes. They are specifically formulated to work together.
My husband & I loved this piece so much we kept it! Its the perfect pop of color for my living room.
