Stencil project 1

Material list

• DBP No Pain Gel Stain in American Honey
• DBP Chalk Mineral Paint in Dried Sage
• DBP Silk Mineral Paint in Cactus
• DBP Clear Coat in Flat 
• DBP Sonoma Art tile stencil
• DBP Synthetic Brushes

How To:

Step 1: Stain and clear coat

Firstly, I found this 12 x 16-inch unfinished wooden tray, I then used No pain Gel Stain in American Honey to stain the sides of the tray. Once the stain was dry, I sealed it with a Clear Coat Sealer in a flat finish. I then carefully taped off the sides to protect the stain.

Step 2: Time to paint and seal!

Secondly, I used Chalk Mineral Paint Dried Sage to paint the tray’s entire flat surface or base. I then used the Sonoma Art tile stencil and painted it with the Silk Mineral Paint Cactus.

After the paint was completely dry, I made a few touch-ups and sealed it with a Clear Coat Sealer.

Step 1: Paint!

Firstly, I painted the whole box, inside and out, with Silk Mineral Paint in the color Tide Pool.

Step 2: Stencils

My next step is to take the dragonfly section from the Enchanted Garden Stencil and use tape to hold it down. I then stenciled in the surrounding area with the Silk Mineral Paint in Morning Sunrise. As a base color, I painted the whole dragonfly with Palmetto and then used Mint Julep to give the wings more dimension and color variation. I also dabbled with a bit of Nautical and Gemstone Mouse in the color Garnet for the tiniest bit of shimmer. Gemstone Mousse is a fluffy metallic paint but it is no longer sold on the Dixie Belle website, check with your local retailer to see if they have any in stock!
