Can this be used over wood stain and regular paint? What does clean up with soap and water mean, do I have to rinse it off or is that for my hands?

  3. Mary says:

Can you later paint over a layer of Big mama’s butta ?

How long do I wait to apply Gator hide after applying Big Momma’s butta?

    1. Dixie Belle Paint Company says:

Wait 2-3 hours for the Gator Hide to officially dry and then you can apply Big Mama’s Butta!

      Thank you!

  5. Jen says:

I’m trying to get a strong band-aid smell out of the drawers of a medical chest. Having tried many natural avenues so far short of spray painting to lock the odor in the wood, I thought I would try Mama’s Butter first. If it doesn’t do the job, will I be able to still spray paint or will that not adhere? If you have any other suggestions, I would certainly welcome them:)! Thank you, Jen

    1. Dixie Belle Paint Company says:

Hi Jen! You can try one of our scented Big Mama’s Butta or BOSS. BOSS is a water based odor and stain blocker. It tackles tough stains including bleed thru, smoke, nicotine, felt tip marker, tannins and more. BOSS also seals smoke odors. It comes in clear and white. Hope this helps! ?

  6. Marianna says:

Hi, I have an old wooden chest and multiple smell problems with it.
    1. Something has spilled into it probably a while ago (bought it like that). It’s a strong smell and an oily substance – which keeps bleeding through despite numerous rounds of sanding. I don’t want to paint over it, love the colour and the pattern of wood I see.
    2. The veneer-covered top also smells of old frying oil, and would also prefer keeping its look (tried soapy water and vinegar, it’s better but not completely gone).
What do you recommend to get rid of the smells? Would really appreciate the advice.

    1. Dixie Belle Paint Company says:

      Hi Marianna,

We recommend our Big Mama’s Butta, enhances the natural wood and also comes in 2 smells that you can choose from which would help with the nasty smells. You do have to reapply ever so often but that is also to help with your wood and to keep it looking fresh as ever.
      Hope this helps!

      Happy painting!

  7. Kat says:

I thrifted a dresser for a friend’s closet makeover, but it does have a bit of that old perfume smell to it. I was thinking about using BOSS or Big Mama’s Butta on the inside of the drawers to seal in the smell, but I’m nervous about my friend’s clothes. She collects vintage clothing items, so they need extra care. Will Big Mama’s Butta translate into the fabric of the clothes at all?

    1. Dixie Belle Paint Company says:

Hi Kat! Big Mama’s Butta has a cure time of 7 days. If you are concerned about the product getting on the clothes, you could wait to put the clothes in the closet till the butta has cured. Hope this helps! ?

  8. Erma says:

I have antique wood pieces.. bedroom set, dining set, end tables etc… Can I safely use Big Mommas Butta all over these to add shine and freshness. And will it chance the color of the furniture?

    1. Dixie Belle Paint Company says:

Hi Erma! Big Mama’s Butta is used to revive wood and enhance the wood grain. It has a matte finish. You can test it on an inconspicuous area to see if you like how the wood looks when it’s nourished by the product.

  9. Diane says:

I’ve noticed a few things in this thread & headline that I have questions about. I’ve just used Big Mama’s Butta to revive an old bureau, and it has done a REMARKABLE job of not only eliminating the musty odor, but reducing the water ring damage on top of the bureau. We are MIGHTY impressed!

    1) in the thread above, it says the butta has a matte finish — does that mean that I will WANT to polish my bureau after it has cured? Must I wait the 7 days?
    2) will the renovation to the water stains last? Or will they reappear as it cures?
    3) the headline says it can be used on leather, but I haven’t seen any instruction, experience or advice on leather. I also have cracking and drying out on a beautiful living room set that I am hopeful it might work for. Advice?

    1. Dixie Belle Paint Company says:

      Hi Diane!

Yes, Big Mama’s Butta has a matte finish. We haven’t tested it with other brands, but if you’d like to try polishing your bureau, you can test it on an inconspicuous area.
As far as the water stains, you may need to reapply the butta after 6 months to a year.
Yes, you can use Big Mama’s Butta on leather! Here is a YouTube video where AJ’s Vintage Designs shows how to revive your leather.

      Hope this helps!

    1. Dixie Belle Paint Company says:

Hi Lisa! We don’t recommend it. But you can try it on an inconspicuous portion of your piece. ?

  12. Kerri says:

Hi! I’ve recently used big mama’s butta on multiple wood surfaces after sanding and love how they have turned out! Do you recommend sealing with wax or poly after or just leaving as is?

    1. Dixie Belle Paint Company says:

Hi Kerri! You can leave it as is. It may need to be reapplied in 6 months or so. ?

  13. Lisa Ignjatovic says:

I have a finished antique pine dresser I would like to spruce up. Can Big Mama’s Butter be used on the already sealed dresser or do I need to sand it first?

    1. Dixie Belle Paint Company says:

Hi Lisa! Yes, it can be used on an already sealed dresser if you’d like. ?

  14. Theresa Escott says:

I painted my kitchen with chalk paint white. Will the butter turn them yellow. ? I want to use something that will protect the paint.

Hi Theresa! Did you paint your kitchen cabinets? For cabinets we recommend using Gator Hide. We also have a blog post on how to prevent yellowing 🙂

  15. Amanda says:

Could you use this to seal milk paint? I just placed my first order and I’m very excited!

    1. Dixie Belle Paint Company says:

Hi Amanda! We do not test our products with other brands. We recommend trying it first on an inconspicuous spot on your piece ?

  16. Alyssa says:

Hi! I’m refinishing some drawers with Big Mommas Butter right now and using it to just seal the bare wood. In the future if I decide to stain it, how would I need to prep it? Just wait 6mo for the wax to wear off? Thank you!

    1. Dixie Belle Paint Company says:

Hi Alyssa! You can use mineral spirits to remove Big Mamma’s Butta 😊

  17. Ingrid says:

Hi, I bought some dressers that seem to be chalk painted and they have an awful feel and the drawers stuck. Would Big Mama’s Butta help make the pieces feel smoother to the touch? Can it also help the drawers glide smoothly? Thanks!

    1. Dixie Belle Paint Company says:

Hi Ingrid! We haven’t tested our products with other brands. However, if the paint seems to be adhering well, you could use one of our Clear Coats to provide a smoother finish. We’d recommend testing it on an inconspicuous location on the dresser first. Big Mama’s Butta would be great for helping the drawers to glide more smoothly! 😊

  18. Katharine says:

I’m trying to decide which product would be best to use for a large piece of wood furniture (although there is particle board on the inside shelves) that has a heavy smoke smell. Big Mama’s or BOSS? This is a piece that I may paint down the road but for now just want to tackle the odor. Thanks!

    1. Dixie Belle Paint Company says:

Hello, Katharine! Thank you for inquiring! We recommend BOSS as it is a water-based odor and stain blocker. It tackles tough stains, including bleed thru, smoke, nicotine, felt tip marker, tannins and more! BOSS also seals smoke odors.
