How to Paint Fabric with Dixie Belle Paint

DISCLAIMER: Painting your fabric will no longer cause you to bang your head against a wall repeatedly. However, if you’d like to continue doing so, you need’nt read this blog post. On the other hand, if you like doing things in the least stress-inducing manner possible, please continue on reading. Thank you.

Okay, now that we’ve read that incredibly informative disclaimer, we can begin.

So, you want to know the ins and outs of painting fabric? Well, you’ve certainly come to the right place. Today we are going to bestow upon you all the necessary tips and tricks for doing just that. All you’ll need is a pen and paper to take notes because you’re about to receive some very exclusive info, reserved for the elite only. That’s you.

Lets jump straight in, shall we?

Preparation: Because failing to prepare is preparing to fail, or something like that.

Step 1: To prepare the fabric for painting you must first clean the piece with soap and water. Then you’ll want to mist the fabric thoroughly with a nice misting bottle filled with water. Keeping the fabric moist will allow for the richness of color to reach its full potential. Following that, you can go on and dampen your paint brush with water as well.

Step 2: Grab your favorite Dixie Belle Paint color because its painting time! You’ll want to start by applying the paint working in small sections and continuously misting the fabric to keep it damp.

Step 3: After the first coat of paint is dry, you can lightly sand with a Dixie Belle Paint sanding sponge, which is 150 grit. This sanding sponge is so handy and helpful! It makes the perfect tool for softening up your fabric. Your fabric will be smoother than creamy peanut butter by the time you’re through with this step. Depending on the size of your piece of fabric, you may want to apply a second coat of paint, once again ensuring that you keep the work area and the brush damp, sanding again when complete.

Step 3: This is possibly the easiest step yet. All you have to do is allow your piece to dry. Maybe watch a little television, do a load of laundry or absolutely obliterate your family in a game of Go Fish while you wait.

Step 4: Finally, finish off with Easy Peasy Spray Wax. This easy-to-use wax certainly lives up to its name and will ensure that your piece has a durable finish.

Voila! You’ve made it to the finish line, and you came in first place. I told you it would be stress free. Now you can paint all kinds of funky fabrics. Feel free to have fun and get creative with it too, you never know what brilliant looking pieces can come of it.
