How to Paint Fabric on a Chair

Painting fabric on a chair is easy peasy! Just ask Do Dodson Designs

She painted this chair with Dixie Belle Paint in Bunker Hill Blue and The Gulf. She also used Green Patina and Hammered Copper Gilding Waxes and Easy Peasy Spray Wax.

I started my project by misting the fabric with water. This is an important step that you don’t want to miss. This allows the fibers of the fabric to open and accept the paint. This step is very important. Painting the fabric dry will use more paint and cause the fabric to be stiff. Less is more.

Does it matter what type of fabric you paint, I have really nice bare stools that have beige coverings but my home has no shade like that anymore, would a shade of blue over that work and look professional?

You can paint pretty much any type of fabric! Blue would probably look very nice, and it would cover easily over beige! Make sure to tape off areas you do not want painted to give a nice professional look!
