Materials List:
- Cotton Pillow Cover
- Pillow Insert
- Large Star Stencil
- Tacky Spray Adhesive
- Dixie Belle’s Silk All-In-One Mineral Paint in Deep Sea
- Chip Paint Brush
- Piece of Cardboard
- Red Embroidery Thread
- Embroidery Needle
- Embroidery hoop (optional)
- Scissors
- Old Tea Towel
- Iron
How To Make Patriotic Pillowcases:
Step 1: Stencil paint a star onto the pillowcase
First, lay out pillowcase with a piece of cardboard inside of it. Find or make a star stencil of your choosing, place on the pillowcase and apply paint with a Chip Brush. Using a chip brush will give you a rustic feel by dragging the paint unevenly.
Step 2: Outline with a running stitch in a different color
Next, after the pillowcase has dried fully, you’re going to outline the star using the “Running Stitch” technique.
Step 3: Heat set the paint
After that, in order to preserve the paint on the fabric, we’re going to have to heat set it. Turn your iron on the silk setting and place a thin piece of fabric between the iron and the pillowcase. After ironing about several times, your pillowcase is ready to be completed with the pillow insert!
Step 4: Style & enjoy!
Lastly, style your pillowcase into your desired setting and enjoy!
