Who doesn’t love a creative repurpose project? Today, we’re thrilled to share a guest blog from Lee Ann at Creative Moments! She’s taken a simple wine gift box and given it a completely new lease on life using Dixie Belle Paint products. With her signature touch of creativity and attention to detail, LeeAnn’s project showcases just how easy it is to transform ordinary items into stunning home decor pieces. Let’s dive into her step-by-step process and see how she turned this plain box into something extraordinary!

I spotted this wine gift basket and instantly envisioned repurposing it with rice paper. With just a few creative steps, it could transform into a pretty and practical storage basket.

Step 1:

The first step involved covering the gold-stamped business logo.

I filled it with white Dixie Belle Mud and allowed it to dry.

Once it dried, I sanded the surface smooth.

Step 2:

Bougainvillea Terra Clay Paint perfectly matches the basket color, making it the ideal choice. With a few coats painted over the filled area, it creates a solid base color that seamlessly prepares the surface for the rice paper application.

Step 3:

The Native Rose Rice Decoupage Paper adds a gorgeous touch and pairs perfectly with the box color. I carefully cut pieces to fit the sides and decoupaged them onto the basket using Terra Seal as an adhesive, brushing it both under and over the paper for a secure finish. The matte texture of Terra Seal complements the design beautifully.

To ensure smooth progress, I allowed each section to dry completely before moving on to the next.

For the tapered ends, I positioned the dry, pre-cut paper pieces and gently folded the edges into place, achieving a perfectly customized fit.

Finally, I secured the last piece, completing the look with a seamless “glued” finish.

Step 4:

The final step was to do a final coat of satin clear coat to give the basket a little bit of sheen.

This gift basket is now ready to store things with a gorgeous new look.
