Whether you’re tackling your very first DIY or you’ve already painted half your home, we know you’ve got questions—and we’re here to help! At Dixie Belle Paint Company, we make painting easy, fun, and stress-free. In this post, we’re answering some of the most common questions about our Chalk Mineral Paint.
How far does the paint go?
Our paint offers excellent coverage with just a small amount:
- 8 oz. covers about 38 square feet
- 16 oz. covers around 75 square feet
- 32 oz. covers up to 150 square feet
Coverage may vary depending on the surface and paint color you’re using.
How many coats do I need?
It depends on the color. If you’re painting with a darker color, one coat is usually enough. For lighter colors, you’ll likely need two coats to achieve full, even coverage.
Can I use Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint in a sprayer?
Yes! You can use our Chalk Mineral Paint in a paint sprayer. Thin it with a bit of water and strain it first to avoid clogs. Always test your spray settings on a sample board before starting your project for best results.
Can you paint fabric with Dixie Belle Paint?
Absolutely! Our paint works beautifully on fabric. Mist the fabric with water, then apply thin layers of paint. Once dry, lightly sand between coats for softness. Seal with Easy Peasy Spray Wax for a flexible finish—or leave it unsealed for a more natural texture.
Do I need to prime, sand, or strip first?
Nope! One of the best things about our Chalk Mineral Paint is that no priming, sanding, or stripping is required. Just make sure your surface is clean—we recommend using White Lightning—and give slick or glossy surfaces a quick scuff sand to help the paint adhere.
If no sanding or priming is required, why do you sell Bonding BOSS?
Great question! While no sanding or priming is required for most projects with Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint, there are exceptions. Bonding BOSS is specially designed for slick, shiny, or bleed-through-prone surfaces like laminate, glass, metal, mahogany, or cherry wood. In these cases, Bonding BOSS helps your paint stick better and blocks stains, odors, and tannins that might seep through. It’s not required for every piece—but when you need it, you’ll be glad you have it!
How should I store my paint?
Store your Dixie Belle Paint in a cool, dry place with the lid tightly closed. Don’t let it freeze or sit in direct sunlight. Wipe the rim before sealing to keep the lid clean and ensure a proper seal. Properly stored, your paint can last for many future projects!
